allparts economy stock pieces are generally pretty good quality. They are an improvement over the stock fender stuff, but not super dramatic. They used to make an economy heavy duty bridge that looked stock but was really great. They were like $25. Check out www.basspartsresource.com for good price and selection of allparts stuff.

I've got one of Grizzly's $14 bridges, it's a pretty solid little unit.
It's 4-screw though, so not a direct MiM drop in.
just a thought for ya.

thanks...seems like that heavy duty bridge isn't there. perhaps the economy piece is what i'm looking for. i don't want to go the route of high-mass bridges and i like the fender bridge, my only problem with is that the saddles move way too much: my action and intonation always change

is there extra drilling involved with the Grizzly unit? i'm not against drilling holes in my bass but i'm not exactly what you would call "handy"

Put some clear fingernail polish on the threads.

My advice would be to avoid the Allparts bridges that they call "economy" models and used to call "dirtcheap", the ones with the four mounting screws - one in each corner. I have a bridge that appears identical to these ones that I just mentioned and the back part where the strings mount has bent upward off the surface of the bass quite a bit in the area behind the tail end mounting screws. All screws are holding tightly but the bridge itself has bent. It has been that way for a long time but it does not inspire much confidence in that bridge and I do plan to replace it in the future.

BTW:
klockwerk - do you find the Grizzly bridge to be easy to adjust for intonation? I notice that it has no springs and screws to move the saddles back and forth like a standard Fender style brridge. - Thanks - S

Peace,
S

I wonder if the $19.75 model Grizzly bridge would be a direct Fender replacement. Anybody know?
