i GASing for a maple neck on my MIM jazz. especially now since Fender no has maple's on their standard line.
quick question though.
My first reaction is a warmoth, since i can get one to my exact specifications, but it'll cost me a pretty penny.
so.. do allparts and/or mighty mite necks come with and support rods other than the standard truss rod like warmoth necks or american fender necks?
and also...if i do get a replacement neck, do i have to get new tuners, or will my MIM tuners fit?
fyi, its a 2006 60th aniv. MIM jazz.

| | | | Allparts necks dont have graphite or steel in them. They have truss rods. They arent made as well as warmoths but for tradionalists they sound "better". Ive tried both. Warmoths sound wierd...almost tingy or metallic imo...not a good sound at all. Im not going to buy another warmoth neck. They both require extensive fret work if you like low action and floppy light gauge strings. Get an allparts for $195 finished with block inlays from dguitarparts.com, and then get a fret job for $150. That beats the $350-$400 price tag of a bound/blocked and finished warmoth neck which would also need a $150 fret job. |

I, for one, don't like their necks, and when I wrote to them about offering shallower/thinner necks, they *did* respond, but it wasn't what I had hoped to hear: Something like "Our necks are fine the way you are for 99% of players." Well, call me 1%.
I have an Allparts guitar neck on my tele that I *love*, and I'm about to finish replacing my warmoth neck on my FrankenSaber with a mightymite. I can tell the MM neck is thinner, but I won't know how it plays until it's on and dialed in.
That all said, I wouldn't throw tons of money at a MIM bass unless you *know* the body is made of good wood... but that's me.

| | That's the way uh huh uh huh I like it.. | | Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Robbinsville, NJ | | | I have both Allparts and Warmoth necks and love both. The only tone difference that I can hear is the fact that my Warmoths have a slightly tighter, crisper sound where as the Allparts are a bit warmer and perhaps minutely muddier. Both are very very good.
Don't like MM necks too much, I have had two and both felt cheap, and both ended up looking like pretzels over time.
I would take a warmoth over anything else, Allparts would be my second choice. If you're on a budget, check out the classifieds here or even eBay, they're not uncommon. I've bought a few that already had fret jobs and were ready to go.

I like them like they are, so I am in the lucky %99, but I have heard that they are now offering different contours if you ask (don't quote me on that, instead ask wylee) |

I have bought two Allparts Jazz (one fretted & one fretless) necks off of him in the last three months and was very pleased with both; finished with nut and fret job for $180.00 + S&H. http://cgi.ebay.com/BASS-NECK-MAPLE-...3A1%7C294%3A50
