American Precision V string bass keys

Sign in to disble this ad
I just scored a American Precision V string bass neck without the keys. Any idea where to buy original keys as the mounting holes are like no other I have seen. I suppose Hipshot would work, but would really like to purchases the original keys. Thanks !

are they like these?

there would be two round depressions in the wood for each key but no screw-hole.

basspartsresource has them. they're light weight, which you definitely want since you're stuffing 5 of them onto the headstock.

if those are the right ones, then there's an important detail to fix when you get them: the little tensioning screw has an annoying habit of loosening up and falling out, taking the special little collar with it.

get some loctite (probably the "blue" 242), run a tiny bit down the threads of the tension screws, and quickly screw them back in so the keys turn smoothly but not stiffly.

once this is done, those "boron" keys are pretty nice.
