Sign in to disble this ad
A few month ago a professional made a set up and fretwork on my bass (fender jazz). The action setup was high for me so i get it down.
The G string is now about 2 mm in the 12 fret, its the standard measure that appears in Fender Setup Guide, so i guess its not excessively low.
At frets 3, 4, 5 the buzz is a bit annoying, paradojically at the dead spot on 7 theres no buzz, from 7 to 20 the buzz is minimal.
The other strings dont have this problem. (even the D is a bit lower to balance the pickup distance/volume).
If a fretwork was done, its normal that buzz for that action?
So, should i rise the string height? Can i do something with the truss rod to fix it?

I'd take the action up a little if you can live with it. |

But I would also take a look at your nut, 40 is getting pretty light, it might be used to 45's and your sitting in a rut. |

I'd take the action up a little if you can live with it. | if i take the action higher the strings start becoming tight and the tone more thin specially when playing at the bridge.

It's a good idea to leave the bass for about 48hrs for the adjustment to fully 'settle in' before testing to see if it's any better.
If adjusting the truss rod doesn't fix the problem, then I would recommend taking it in to a pro to get it sorted.
