another neck pocket question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have warmoth body (korina with 5a flame top maple)

i have a maple usacg neck that i want to put on it.
The USACG neck is slightly too big. it will go in there about half way. But I am afraid of pushing it in there. that i might break something
Should i just sand the pocket a bit? or the neck. I think if i sand it a little the neck will go in and the pocket will be nice and tight.

what grade of sand paper? if so

Can you send the body back to have new neck pocket done for it? Modifying neck pocket to fit wider neck isnt something amatuer should try imo as you need right tools and detail orientation so sides of neck pocket are cut perfectly flat to neck end sides and just the right size for best fit (not loose).

Only sand what needs to be (if you do this) To determine what needs to be sanded (pocket or neck) take measurements of both and compare them. Try to find specs on the USA neck and the Warmoth neck pocket.

I find it easier to sand both sides of the neck slightly rather than sanding the pocket. Get some 220 grit, wrap around a flat block, and sand a little on each side. I usually count the strokes on each side to make sure I am removing the same amount, then check the fit every so often. Worked perfect for me.

Sand the neck gently and gradually as Joey suggests with 120-220 grit. There's nothing very tricky about this...and you only need a tiny bit of relief. You may not even need to sand through the finish on the sides of the neck.
