another truss rod issue

I know there are tons of threads about truss rod problems, but theres so many that if you even put truss rod in the search a million unrelated things come up... so be nice.

I just moved in to college like a week ago and before I came here the action on my fender j was really low. My room isnt air conditioned so its extremely hot in here so the neck is way out of whack. The problem is that When I make an adjustment, the truss rod turns but it doesnt seem to change the relief, basically im tightening the rod but its not changing anything. In an act of desperation (maybe stupidity) I gave it like a few good turns. The strings should be flat against the neck and unplayable, but instead... you guessed it... no change.

Idk wat to do, i was gonna wait till it gets cooler out and see if that changed anything but Im gonna need my bass sooner than I thought.

If you just crank the truss rod nut tighter, there's a good possibility you're just digging the nut itself tighter into the wood. The trick, when you want to reduce the neck relief (i.e., tighter the truss rod) is to help the nut by gently pulling back on the headstock, and then snugging the nut. IOW, don't try to get the truss rod to pull the neck flatter; flatten it by hand, and set the nut to that point.

A whole turn is a lot. Don't keep doing what you're doing!

Hit the repair section of the Bass Guitar Forum and look for stickies on basic setup. I strongly recommend you read up on truss rod adjustments! Those threads have been very helpful to me.

I'll go with the latter. Consider yourself lucky that you haven't (yet) FUBARed your bass.
