Any suggestions for bridge and tuning pegs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been putting a lot of work into an old 88' Peavey Fury, and I'm looking to get a new bridge and possibly tuning pegs on there too...can i just slap on any old bridge or tuning pegs? I used to have a Geddy Lee and I'm pretty partial to the bad-ass bridge would i be able to use that on an old Peavey P-bass though?

A Badass bridge has plenty of adjustment for a Fury. Don't know if the mounting holes will line up. If your tuners are not acting up there's really no need to change them except for looks. The tuners Peavey used are good quality.

Unless the bridge or tuners you use are direct replacements, there will have to be some careful measurements made and minor drilling. Do a search for "replacement bridge". There should be a lot of info on what may need to be done.

This Fury has a Gotoh type bridge. I did have to drill new mounting holes.

well the tuning pegs are just kinda shaky sometimes, they just look and feel a little worn...the bridge concerns me the most though. Thanks for the advice I'll look into replacing the bridge. When you say that the "Badass has plenty of adjustment"...what exactly do you mean?

Try tightening up the screws on the back of the tuners a little. It's best to do this with the strings slack. Feel how the tuner turns before and after you tighten. If the tuner is hard to turn with the string slack, the screw is too tight. Don't over tighten them.

Enough adjustment for the string height. On some basses, some bridges will not work well because of the height of the fret board from the body surface where the bridge mounts. If you aren't familiar with adjusting a bridge, I recommend you take your bass to someone who has experience with bridge or tuner replacement.

I wasted time and money putting a badass on my foundation.. the mounting holes didn't line up.. the saddles needed tons of filing to sit right... badass stuff is focused on more popular retrofits.

The only noticable change was the charge on my card... not tone, action or sustain.

What exactly is wrong with your current bridge or are you just looking to change?

depending on your patience, I will be finding what exact tuners are a direct replacement for the fury (I'm 100% stealthing one).. chrome tuners will also be available.

Timmy

PS... please PM me if I can be of service.. I may have a chrome fury bridge coming off in great shape.
