Yes, occuring where the string is pressed.

Are you talking a single divot in a single fret, or just like the picture you linked?

If like the picture, you need a fret dress.

Replace the fret or dress all of the frets -- ttbomk those are your options.

OK, thanks - I'd call it string wear, but it's clear what the problem is.

No options other than dressing the fret down far enough to eliminate or moderate the grooves. If no fret is left, time to replace the frets.

Are the rest of the frets in good shape?

If so, I'd recommend replacing the one with the wear, because dressing will take a lot of metal off the others.

Yes, there is the issue that you can't dress just one fret to below the height of its neighbors, or you have a low fret and buzzing problems may result.
