Anyone had a successful or horrible neck reshape?

Hello.

I have a Warmoth Jazz neck that has great birdseye figuring, but it's just a little too chunky. My favorite neck is my MIJ '62 reissue. It's small, comfortable and fast.

In order for me to reshape my Warmoth, I was quoted $80- $120 depending on the labor. This sounds pretty expensive to me but I like the quality of the neck.

Can this go wrong or change the tone of my bass drastically?

If the tech doing it is experienced it should turn out fine. The price sounds good. I've found there can be a change in sound with different neck sizes. Dead spots that weren't there before can appear, or, dead spots that were there can disappear. There's no way to predict exactly what's going to happen. Seeing it's a Warmoth with all that steel reinforcement, it may have less of an effect.

Does the price quote you got cover the cost of refinishing the neck, or at least re-sealing it? I believe the Warmoth necks come with an oil sealer on them.
