What are you looking to have done?

youd think taking a nut off, making 4 small holes, and putting pieces on would be the easiest job ever......

Any decent repair shop should have BASIC soldering skills if they detach any wires. They should also have the appropriate socket wrenches to loosen the nut......Sounds like you are just running into people who DON'T want to help you. I would say that $30 for that is more than fair.

There's some other dynamic going on here.
The jack is cheap and the soldering skill for this is just slightly above "Caveman" or Rhesus monkey, so I don't see a big problem.
Maybe they're afraid of the solder or the tool is so dangerous that they might poke out an eye? Jeez. |

Recently went to replace the 'cables' on a bass - which turned out to be a set of strings. Thankfully it was downtown Palm Springs, so like I hadda be there anyway at the bank - and took care of it.
Hopefully they won't call me to adjust the cables next week.

i guess theres a plastic encasing of the output jack which makes it a little wierd to work with
