Anyone Tried The Kahler 7440/2440 Fixed Bridge?

Hi all,

I'm going to change the bridge on my Squier P, its my first bass and I have been slowly upgrading it. For the bridge its mainly about looks and not tone I must confess.

I have a Badass 2 on my MIM Jazz, but the price has shot up since I bought it. And while I like the Badass, it really isnt worth all the extra cash to me.

So I have been looking at other makes and love the look of the Kahler, and was wondering if anyone has any experience (ease of use/fitting/any tone improvement) with one compared to a Badass or stock Fender bridge?

It seems to be called a 2440 on their site, but any I have seen for sale are called 7440s .

Thanks

from what i can tell, the 7400 versions are bass tremolo bridges.

also, the 2440 looks to be the about the same price as a leo quan anyway.

Nope, its fixed , and I'm sure they are the same, just a model update I guess, check the links for the 7440.

cgi.ebay.com/Chrome-Kahler-USA-Hybrid-7440-Fixed-Bass-Bridge_W0QQitemZ330386141150QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ2 0091213...

www.wammiworld.com/u7440.html

www.evilguitars.com/kahler.htm

And the 7440 is £35 (plus £10 shipping from the US), the Leo Quan was £80 last time I saw one on Ebay. I dont think I have ever seen a BA2 go for under £50 here.

hmm, that's pretty different from kahler's own site.

Its got me a little confused. The only ones I have seen for sale are 7440s, and the only mention I have found of the 2440is on Kahler's site but that hasnt been updated since 2007. So it made sense to me the 7 is the new one.

I may just get a Gotoh 201 (£30) as they are much cheaper than the Badass 2 (£84 if I buy inside the UK!!!). Just looks so much more boring than the Kahler though.

i have a fixed 7440 bridge on my 91 Jackson Kip Winger Futura..

it's a great bridge.. think of it as individual bridges mounted on a plate..

if you feel like raising the string height at the bridge, you can just detune, move the saddle height, and retune..

you can also easily adjust for string spacing..

and, it's all tool steel.. no zinc/zamak.. they are solid..

it's a good choice right now.. Badass bridges are getting harder to get.. (Glen Quan is very sick right now, and it's a small business..) the prices have gone up on Badass bridges, too.. 100 bucks for one is not that unusual now, plus a wait..

the Kahler is cheaper, it's steel.. is very adjustable.. you can get it without a wait.. the 4 string bridge can add another saddle and become a narrow 5 bridge..

either way, you can't lose..

You dug up a 2-year old thread about a NON-tremolo bridge just to post a suggestion about buying a cheap tremolo bridge?

Exar's business is on hold for now. I will still help previous customers.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I'm considering getting this bridge. Is it a drop in replacement on fender basses or do extra holes need to be drilled? Thanks.
