| Well fret leveling would take some tooling, I honestly have no idea whats involved there. If its matter of your frets being uneven then yeah I'd say take it in, but you don't know if thats the case...where they may charge you for it anyway. These forums are FULL of info on properly setting up a bass. For adjusting your string action, it all comes down to the saddle heights on the bridge, and the truss rod adjustment in the headstock. Others here will speak of force-bending the neck (I think called backloading?) where you disconnect the neck and weigh down both ends with the center on a stand...I've never had to go that far. My ATK has super low action and plays like butter, when I got it I put on thinner strings and the tension change required the truss rod to be adjusted, and then I fine tuned the height of each string at the bridge.
You stated that the tech informed you of buzz you didn't know you had...it sounds like when car mechanics tell people their "flux capacitor needs replaced"
(btw the flux capacitor is what makes the Delorean go through time when you hit 88 mph)
EDIT: just to be clear, I'm not trying to come off as condescending, just sharing info and tryin to save you a buck. In college I was the resident guitar tech just cuz I knew how Google worked, until I found out it was easier to teach people how to set up their own.
