B string question.

I have two Fender Five strings; an American Deluxe Jazz and an American Standard Jazz. I've been play the Deluxe a lot and last night I pulled out the Standard. I notice that the B string is much more balance with the Standard than the Deluxe.

The volume on the B string of the Deluxe is much lower than the other strings. I've noticed this in the past about the deluxe and tried tweaking a few things that didn't help. The pickup on the deluxe has pole pieces that stick out and seem to follow the contour of the neck. I've taken the pickup out of the body to see if I could raise the pole piece of the B string. Interestingly enough, it seems the pickup looks like a humbucker. The B and E are wrapped seperately fron the other strings.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to bring the B's volume up to the same volume as the other strings. Both basses have the same strings.

Adjust your pickup height a little bit at a time. I'm sure there's a way to adjust the pole pieces too but I don't think it is necessary.

+1 on this, it might be the best solution.

BTW, I take a lot of time finding the right volume balance between the two pick-ups when at full volume. Usually I'll lower the bridge pick-up.
I kinda like the P sound with a bit of clarity and presence from the bridge pick-up. Just my taste.

Just curious,do you have the string-thru-body and do you use it?

I'm looking at a lefty Fender V and the only one I found is from Japan and doesn't have the STB.
