B String Saddle All the Way Back- Intonation Still Off

Sign in to disble this ad
Putting new D'Addario strings on my MIA 5 string Jazz Bass, and the B intonation is still way off, despite the saddle being all the way back.

The 12th fret harmonic and open are dead on, the fretted 12th fret is way sharp.

It's a nickel .130 non-tapered string.

Any advice?

Recently I had a similar issue coincidentally with Daddarios. I couldnt get the G string to intonate no matter what I did. Turns out it was the string. Put it on several basses and it gave me problems. Could be the string, and if it turns out to be, contact Daddario. They sent me a new replacement set for free and it worked great.

I had the exact same issue(on a MIA 96 Jazz 5), & solved it by adding 2 pieces of business card at the bridgeward end of the neck pocket; this slightly increased the neck angle & pushed the nut away from the bridge juuust enough to intonate properly. I needed to raise the action just a bit too.

Sounds like the string is too high pulling it sharp when you fret it.

yes the harmonic will always be on, unless your strings are very old and crusty.

you may have to move your bridge back maybe 3/8 inch or so.
