| I have had a Spector Euro neck-thru 5 and currently have a Rebop 5 and my experience is not what your is. My experience with Spectors is that they have some of the best sounding B strings out there. I use a .130 B string.
One setup-related tip I can give is to make sure the saddle height is high enough to let the B string vibrate freely. Many times people get caught up in making their action as low as possible. But, if the B string is too low it doesn't have the room it needs to vibrate freely. I usually raise the B just a smidge, like a 1/4 turn on the allen keys, higher than the rest of the strings and I've had great results.
I agree that its a setup problem, not a problem with the bass itself. Make sure you are using the right strings (long-scale or extra long-scale, at least .125 gauge) and set the string height a little higher at the saddles.
