Compare that to the total Babicz MINIMUM spread specs. If the Bab goes as narrow as the stock bridge you're good. Then you have to consider minimum string height off the body and if the Bab goes that low enough. Since the 'standard' bab is designed around Fender P & J specs, it may not work with the Bronco, but I can't speak to this. You have to measure or wait to see if someone else has done the mod. Measuring is pretty easy. Babicz site will have the specs.......

Hey, the top bass in your avatar, is that a Fender '75 American Vintage reissue by any chance? If so, I have one, and I'm strongly considering the Babicz! I've never used an after-market bridge, just replacing the old stock one which is starting to die. Have you tried Babicz in comparison to others, eg. Hipshot, Badass, Gotoh etc? If so, any pros/cons? Sorry, just trying to get the best for my beautiful baby!!
Thanks!
EDIT:
Never mind, didn't see the link, just your lo-res avatar! Totally different bass. My bad!

| | | | finally received my bridge, all of the string spacing lined up nicely. However while installing the new screws into the bridge the A string screw head broke off, then a drill bit broke off behind it...Should I drill more holes a few 8ths behind those existing holes?
it doesn't really seem like a screw extractor will do the trick |

Installing Tip - To make any wood screw go in easier rub them on a bar of soap. It'll cut the friction way down.

I'd been having problems with side-slipping saddles on the stock bridge any way, so this one with its lateral locking mechanism seemed perfect for me. I love the whole design of it too, really solid piece of kit with great height adjustment mechanism. Recommend! |

I love the bass but the bridge has been the weak link for awhile. I now have very high expectations after reading this thread. I'll report back later this week. |

The Babicz is a great bridge. I have one and it is very well thought out.
One thing I don't like is when you adjust to max or near max string height, the edge of the saddle is at the top and looks sharp - like a knife edge.
No broken strings yet - and "looks sharp" isn't the same as sharp. |

What prompted me was a question posted by TB'er extreme: Quote: |

| This is why I won't be buying another Babicz.
The 2 bridges that beat the Babicz (IMHMFO) are:
#1) The Hipshot A - just superb
#2) The Fender Big Block
Both offer super easy adjustment and both have micro-adjust string spacing.
The Big Block is not to be confused with the Fender "High Mass" - I changed out the high mess bridge on my 2012 AmStd for the Big Block. Now my strings are evenly spaced to my liking - 19mm. With the high mass you are stuck at 18mm unless you don't care about even spacing.
You want your Big Block to lock down? Then get the Fender Roscoe Beck bridge. A Big Block with lock down. (4 string only - the RB 5 string was a Gotoh, and harder to deal with I have heard).
ps: "Big Block" is not really the name of the bridge - Fender made a P-Bass called the "Big Block" a while ago and it featured this bridge. Quite a bit chunkier than the "High Mass" but, alas, it didn't have the Fender "Vibe" - so it is now harder to find.
Hope this helps. Again, if you don't need micro adjustable string spacing - the Babicz ROCKS! |

| | | Just ordered one...
hoping to resolve my bridge/scale issues by moving the bridge further back without uncovering an unsightly ground wire cavity. I say cavity because it was pretty roughly drilled.... |

No broken strings yet - and "looks sharp" isn't the same as sharp. | That may be less an issue on the newer ones. I usually have to shim my necks and bridges when I install a mudbucker pickup at the neck. I have used folded up aluminum foil to shim the bridges of 3 basses and it works like a charm. That is one way to avoid the sharp-ish edge if it concerns you. Another option is to use higher tension strings which would allow for lower action. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
