backbow question

i have a squier vintage modified jazz bass which im trying to set-up.my problem now is setting the neck.i've read the the neck need a slight amount of relief.how much exactly is a slight relief?

Try around .5 mm to start with at about the 8th fret with the string held down at the first and last frets. You will need some feeler gauges.

Out of curiosity, have you read the setup guides at the beginning? There are several to pick from, and they will do an excellent job at walking you through the process in the correct order, and will give you all these spec ranges.....

"Relief", is the opposite of, "backbow", BTW.
