On my G&L L2500 the backside of the neck is causing too much thumb friction. What to do?

I don't know that bass. What is the finish? High gloss?

Take some ultra fine steel wool 0000
or
Between finish sand paper and gently go over it...

Too much finish, like a pool cue stick, will cause the friction, especially when sweating and attracting dirt, etc.

It is high gloss indeed.
Somebody mentioned steel wool... seemed a bit spartan to me...

No matter the finish, I find that a good cleaning, followed by a nice coating of Finger-ease, or some other type of slick stuff, and your fingers and hand will just glide up and down the neck. Finger-ease is also a good protectant for your strings and makes using round-wounds a little less abrasive.

I felt the same way, but when I saw it done, then did it myself... It's an amazing satin feel. High gloss tends to drag especially if you sweat and/or in a humid climate... Call your favorite luthier/tech guitar guy and that is what they'll most likely tell you...

Very fine steel wool does the trick. It's a good idea to put some tape on the pups when you do this because any steel wool dust has a way of really getting attracted to those magnetic pole pieces.

+10000000 I learned that the hard way. It's a bitch to get all those little fibers off!!
