There were a few talkbass members getting highway ones for $400 on sale (in december), stripping the bridge, selling it for $200 on ebay and then putting a stock bridge on it and being quite happy with their $250 MIA Fender.

I dont feel I was ripped off in any sense. The sellers on TB mostly kept a level head about prices.
I can get a new one now for 95ish shipped. Paying an extra 5 bucks to not wait wasn't a big deal. |

I like the design of the Hipshot better. They are both hmv bridges but the stringing method for the Hipshot is more convenient and can receive string through as well. What other differences or advantages does one have over the other? Can someone explain?

I like the hipshot topload design where you can swap strings without risk of marring your finish. The BAII tends to give you more ring in the upper mids, or more clank. The hipshots tend to sound warmer IME, but I have not tried the A saddle design. I would expect the B to sound much like a higher mass vintage design, identical to the gotoh 201 or something like that.
once you get past saddle design and past a certain weight I fail to hear a difference in bridges.
