Badass II in Australia

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,

I'm a bassist from down under, and was just wondering if anyone knew of any suppliers of the Badass II here in Australia? I recently bought a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz, and want to do a few little mods (Badaas II, ashtrays, thumb rest, new tuners etc.)

I've tracked down everything I need here in Australia except the bridge (which is kinda the most important part to me). I can order from the US, but I'd rather stick with a local supplier.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks guys.

A Fender dealer could help you out and special order one. It's a standard item in the Fender Accessories catalog.

Seriously, unless your bridge is THAT bad or broken- chances are, the only difference you will actually notice is your wallet getting lighter.

I "upgraded" my stock 'bent piece of metal' bridge to the Badass because- it's "better." Right? I've noticed no extra "sustain" or super electric zip to the sound or anything. I don't even notice the few extra ounces the bridge adds to the guitar. Over the years, I've put the stock one back on, and swapped it out with the Badass... I honestly cannot tell the difference sonically.

If you're going after the look- cool, I guess. If you're expecting something amazing, like a 'wet blanket being pulled off your instrument,' you'll probably be really pissed that you spent $70 on the Badass.

It's a fine bridge- and wouldn't hesitate recommending it if there were actually something wrong with your bridge- but if you're looking to "upgrade," it's not any different than a properly working, functional bridge.

Thanks for that mate. I'm not upgrading for the looks, as the bridge will be under a cover anyway. I'd just heard good things about the Badass II improving the bass.

Anyone else got an opinion on this?

EDIT: Hmmm, I just had a thought. I'd probably have trouble fitting the Badass II under a jazz bass chrome bridge cover anyway right?

hold it...DON'T buy a badass II if you're looking to put the cover on...it won't fit...

I agree with previous poster...I notice no diff from a badass II vs the "bent plate" other than quality.

If you really want a BadAss II, search eBay till you find a good deal.

I recommend the Gotoh 201 instead though, less money for pretty much the same upgrade.

Yep, those Gotoh ones are the ones I'm after.

Also, if anyone is interested, here are the part numbers for the legit Fender ones (which most Fender dealers could get in for you).

JB Bridge cover (with scroll "F" on it): 001-0678-000
JB Pickup cover: 001-0660-090

I'm not going with the Fender ones, as these are going on my Squier. I may be a pretentious prat, but not pretentious enough to stick a cover over my bridge that has a big Fender F on it, when the bass is a Squier. Play the Squier with pride!!

I replaced my vintage-style bent plate bridge simply because I hate it when the saddles move around since there are no grooves in the plate. Also the way the strings sit in between the sharp edges on the barrel just doesn't seem all that great for contact.

I was planning on going for a Badass, but instead went for the Gotoh 203B-4, which retains the vintage style look and tone, but is just more secure all round, and made of solid brass.

It's this one here..

Of course some won't like it due to the 2 extra screws at the top, but you don't really have to install them, as I noticed when I put mine on. But I did anyway since I don't plan on replacing it ever.

Solid bridge!

they're all good bridges. i don't like the way a badass changes the tone of bass that much, but it is a pain if the saddles move about too much on the stock fender bridges

i've ordered one on of these (in chrome) brass bent plate with quick release. see how it sounds when i get it
