I had this same problem about 2 months ago. Home Depot carries this allen wrench. It's a .50. Very small.

Wow. 0.5 mm is basically 0.020". That's micro (5 sheets of standard paper).

A standard 4-40 set screw takes a 0.050 Hex Key. I'll stick with what I said.

Why don't the folks who make BadAss II use a more commonly found size. This is BS, I'm having a hell of time finding the right size. Thanks for the thread. Hopefully the folks who make the bridge are getting plenty of complaints. I'll think I'll email'em.

Did you guys know a nail will work?
Any average size nail.
Since the sharp end tapers to a point, you can insert the end and it will fit perfectly and stick where the thickness of the nail equals the hole of the saddle.

Despite the convenience of this technique, I bet somebody will comment about how there is something wrong with this, and you are supposed to use a musician quality nail. (One that was preferrably hanging a framed black and white photo of Jaco...though John Paul Jones will do.)

Speaking of nails and saddles, has anybody heard of the Civil War general, Winfield Hancock, who had a saddle pommel explode in his crotch because a bullet struck it? Pretty gnarly and Badass II. He promptly got off the horse and pulled wood fragments and nails out of his upper thigh. And then dismissed it with a casual joke.

Yeah, stupid idea - using anything other than the proper sized wrench will result in a rounded set screw... then, we'll see a thread we've seen a few times here in the past:

"How can I remove a stripped screw out of a BA bridge, and where can I get new screws?"

Truth is, a .050" allen wrenches are readily available - there is no good reason not to use one, considering how much those bridges cost, and the inevitable outcome of not doing so...

Ok good point. You are right.

I realized that might happen but I kinda assumed that if you just did once or twice...

I did it out of thriftiness, but I have been planning to get a couple of the right size for my case.

Didn't realise there is a worldwide shortage of standard Allen wrenches, lol. Any SAE standard small set will have an .05 Allen, even here in the metric Great White North. Keep yer stick on the ice and remember, if the ladies don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

You could take saddle off with a Phillips driver and take it into the store to get a key to fit. :P

Drop the big box stores and get back to basics, this tool is perfect for your bass kit.

I have actually had 2 or 3 sets that didn't have a size that fit. One was from Home Depot, one was from a Big Lots, and a previous roommate had tons of tools and nothing he had fit.
