BadAss II Bridge over-extension -- a problem?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 4-string '85 Fender P that I'm looking to mod. Replacing the old pups with a Bart 8S and the old bridge with a BAII. Well, I'd like to go with the BAII, but it extends about 1/8'' over the flat edge of the body, where it begins to curve. I was just wondering if this would pose as a problem in any way.

The distance between the center of the mounting hole to the end of the bridge is just under 7/8''. If the situation with my bridge is a problem, are there other direct replacement bridges that have this spacing under 7/8''?

Here are some pics:

I've always been told that if it plays, just play it, unless it bothers you. By the way, a beautiful bass.

It would probably work just fine, but would bother the living heck out of me if it were my bass... maybe just go with the original bridge, or if not that than some other nice aftermarket bridge with close to the same specs? Either way it looks like it's going to turn out killer, good luck!

It will work fine. but the looks would worry me,
I would drill new holes about 1/4 " towards the neck.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was mainly worried about it possibly messing with the itonation, but since that's not a problem, I will be installing it the way it is.

Why are the holes so far back to begin with?

I really have no clue My MIJ '85 Jazz Special has the mounting holes at the same location as well.

It should be fine the way it is. If you do not like the aesthetics you can make and install a tapered shim. To blend it in, paint it the same color as the body.

85 Fender P Bass

If it were my project, I'd fill the old holes and drill new ones for the BAII. There should be more then enough saddle adjustment to correct the intonation if you move the bridge 1/8th forward.
