Badass II Bridge on a Stingray

Does anybody know if you can put a Badass Bass II Bridge on a Stingray?

If it's possible and somebody has done it, what do you think?

I'm sure it could be done. Depends on how much cutting you want to do to the StingRay. The studs the stock bridge mounts to will probably be in the way, and you'll probably have funny parts exposed underneath it as the footprints of the two bridges are so different.

Can I ask why? I think the MM bridge (either version, the original STB one and the later top-load one) is a great bridge. Solid, reliable, and fully functional without being a PIA to use.

You can put any bridge on it you want. But then you'll ruin the resale value. The factory bridge works just fine.Any gains you might get from a BA 2 will be minimal at best.Leave it alone.

+1. What could possibly be wrong with that bridge?

Why put a Badass two on a stingray? I don't think it would add anything to the tone since the stingray bridge is already pretty massive.

If you really want to do it, I think you will have to drill new holes since the screw pattern on stingray is not the same as on a fender.

Get an old OLP or something similar and experiment. Not that I don't expect to get anything pretty soundwise from such experiments. --Kent

It's true, stingray bridges are held in places by studs in the body in addition of the screws.

So bassicly you would be removing a brigde with a good mass that is coupled in the best possible way to the body of the bass and replace it by another bridge that wouldn't be coupled as well. Resale value apart, I think you would be loosing in the tone department by adding a badass to that bass.

I will just echo what the others have said. The stock Music Man bridge is great, and you would gain nothing by putting a Badass on it, you would actually loose, the re-sale value would go down.

Same here. The MM bridge is awesome! Bridges like the BAII came about because of the flimsy, poor quality of SOME of the original Fender bridges.

I've had problems with my Stingray Bridge for a while. It has a couple of what I think are called "Burs" or "Burns" in the saddles which cause the strings to break pretty frequently. The intonation is also pretty bad. I've been interested in the BAII for a while and wanted to see if it was worth just switching instead of having the original one toned up.

I guess it's not though!

I wouldn't do it still. Better to get a replacement bridge I think.

couldn't you file down the burs? Or find a replacement MM bridge?

A new bridge because there are burrs on the saddle? That's like buying a new car because the tires are dirty! File down the burrs or, if you're not confident in your ability, take it to a good tech. It is a MINOR repair.

How do burrs on the saddles break bass strings? Are the strings coming unwound but the core doesn't break? That could be burrs on the saddles. But if the core of the string is breaking, then it's not the bridge causing it. A burr would have to cut through all the layers of wrap wire and into the core to cause breaking.

I'd get some very fine sandpaper (really, really fine) and polish the saddles, or even flip them over before I got a new bridge.
