badass II fret buzz

Sign in to disble this ad
I've recently re-fitted my badass bridge back on my pbass.
I have the option to lower the strings right down to get a nice low action, only doing this creates a lot of fret buzz. To stop the fret buzz, the strings have to be set considerably higher...6mm higher at the 12th fret but the action remains bearable towards the nut. The buzz is from around the 5 fret down to the bridge.

Can anybody please tell me if a truss rod adjustment will likely allow me to lower my strings at all? Or is it something else likely to be causing this huge amount of buzz?
The neck looks as it should (with a slight inward bow).

I have tried making adjustments but in order to do so I have to take the neck completely off (MIJ).

Thanks for any helpful input guys

Without actually seeing the bass,I'd say yes, adjusting the truss rod may help considerably..

I put BadAss's on all my basses, and give them a fresh set-up when doing so. Your neck doesn't necessarily HAVE to have any bow,or maybe just not as much as it has now..Just keep in mind when playing with the truss rod to do so in SMALL increments..

Set up and Repair section here has sticky's with all the info you'd need..

Superlow action nearly always entails a fretmill, by someone who knows what he's doing.

That's just it, I'm not even after what you could consider super low action, just a 'regular' action would suffice.

I downloaded a set-up guide that somebody here posted a link too, and it says if pressing on the 1st and last frets then you should have between 0.3mm-1.0mm and no more between the 7th fret and the string above it..well I have 2.0mm!

I adjusted the truss rod slightly to give me more inward bow and it did get rid of a little buzz overall but added more to the higher notes without letting me lower the strings very much at all.

Is there a good explanation for all of this, or does something sound not right here?

2mm is a lot. Slowly adjust your neck to proper relief and then setup from there. I am very carefull and adjust a 1/2 turn a day.
