BadAss II or III?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am wanting to replace the stock bridge in my MIM Fender Jazz fretless with one of the Bad Ass bridges. I have played on the BA II on the Geddly Lee bass and really liked it. Has anyone played the Bad Ass III and liked it more than the II? Thanks.

The Badass II is the direct replacement for the standard Fender bridge, the Badass III is not.

The Badass III is a string through design with three mounting screws. They are tonally very similar.

If you're concerned about notching the saddles, you can put the grooved saddles of the Badass III on the Badass II.

If you are going to upgrade, go for the Badass II since it is a direct bolt on and pay a local guitar place to file the saddles for $25 or so...way more professional than the precut saddles on the Badass III and it will not require new mounting holes to be drilled!

I'd wait a bit more, I hear new BA2's will have notched saddles. Wait/Ask Brian at BBG.

The new BAII bridges now feature pre-slotted saddles.

As Tim mentioned, they're quite similar, except for the fact that one is a direct replacement for the standard Fender bridge, and the other is made with a different mounting pattern.

I also have seen reports that the new pkg of BA2 will have BOTH notched and unnotched saddles included, and that notched will be available separately.

And my understanding of the BA3 is that it is also a direct Fender replacement, but for MIA with 3 mounting holes instead of the 5 that BA2 has. In addition, the BA3 is for through body OR top loading strings.

I think it's good advice to verify these things with whomever you plan to buy from. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion right now, and Quan's web site is years old.

BAIII is for MIA fenders, BAII is for MIM or MIJ fenders. i think it was like 10 bucks for the saddles to be slotted over by me, but then i got one off of a fender geddy lee and there was no need.
