Badass II on a Squier VM Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Squier VM Fretless Jazz Bass. So far, it's great, but I was curious about the Badass bridge. Does replacing the stock bridge with a Badass II improve anything much? The results seem somewhat mixed from what I can tell.

Also, any other recommended mods?

Hipshot A may be a better choice. More adjustable and is top-loading.

Gotoh 201 bridge will yeild the best results on a fretless jazz bass..

You will have to set up your string height and probably reset the truss rod.

The round saddles will give you a warmer sound.

With a fretless bass the "Bad Ass" has too much bite for me.

It's better for fretted basses when you want clanky percussive fret noise.

On a fretless you want virsatility.

That's the whole point of losing the frets. If you can still sound fretted you're becoming versatile.

You also get he mmMWAH! when you want it..

Any solid cast bridge is better than the bent metal stock material you get from Fender..

Bad Ass is a great bridge. I went with a Gotoh and am perfectly happy. Gotoh's are less on the accounting department..
