To Badass or not to Badass

I have a 1985 MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special that I bought new back in the day. It was my first bass and I still play it regularly. It's totally stock and in near perfect condition despite so many years of playing. I'm thinking of putting on a Badass bridge to improve sustain/tone (I added one to my MIM Jazz and it really made a difference!) My question is this, would it be better to leave the bass "stock" rather than add any modifications? I'm not looking to sell it anytime soon but I don't want to do anything that would lessen any value it might have. Thanks in advance for your input.

I would leave it. Modding something sentimental seems to make it less sentimental IMO.

It really depends on if you need to do anything to your bass to install one. The Badass may just drop into the same mounting holes perfectly. If you decide to sell later, you can easily revert back to the original bridge.

Anyway, the value is in the eye of the buyer. If someone else potentially buying it thinks it is worth less, then yes the value is negatively effected. Someone else may think it's an improvement.

Unless you're planning on selling it, the value isn't really being changed.

The Mod is not permanent and doesn't alter the bass, just don't lose your old bridge.

If you like the zingy feel of a high mass bridge, IMO there are many drop-in replacements which are far superior to "Badass II". I replaced the "Badass II" which came stock on my Peavey Palaedium with a Smith IV bridge and it's a far better implementation of the slotted high mass design IMO. Other better options abound.
