Question Baritone bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I want a bass that has a low b string but there is not much selection in 5 string basses. What would I have to do to make a regular 4 string bass into a baritone? Thanks

To answer the question, You would have to make a new nut or just widen the nut and put a B E A D strings

I've seen it called a BEAD bass, & went with that. I suppose that is a proper term, in step with a baritone guitar. But "baritone bass" just sounds strange to me.

All that'd have to be done is nut slots; might want to just get a new nut & save the old one JIC.

Might need the B's string hole reamed out a bit.

&, like any string change, your action should be checked & possibly adjusted.

You might want to go up a step in gauge to get more tension & reduce the chances of a "floppy B".

Maybe Contra Bass.

Rondo music has a number of 5 strings under 200 bucks. I bought a fretless Douglas several months ago and love it.
