Bass Chorus Effect

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Fender American P bass. I have a Badass3 Bridge installed on it, which is the only mod done to the bass. The problem I am having is that the G and D strings are making a chorus type sound. Someone suggested lowering the pickup. To a degree that has helped, but the effect is still there and I have lost volume and tone. On a side note it was suggested that I change strings which I did to make sure it was not the bad strings. I use DR HIBEAMS 45 to 105 strings, the strings that I had on where Dean Markley Blue Steels 45 to 105. So bad strings have been eliminated as the cause of the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check that the strings are under the string tree/guide at the headstock, given that you have a string tree. If for some reason you don't, get one.

I just happened to me a few days ago, I didn't set my G string under the guide, and got exactly that, a chorusy sound.

Ah! I just realized you have a bad ass bridge. Check that you are stringing through the lower holes that retain the string ball end. SOME of those bridges have sorta two places where the string ball gets caught, but make sure is the lower one, so there is the right angle behind the saddle.

I am going throught the body with the strings. should I go through the top bridge holes instead. Yes I do have a string tree on the D and G strings.

Joshua thank you in an indirect way you help me find the problem. The Badass3 bridge that I have has groves in the saddles. So I went back and looked. What I found was the angle of the string coming through the body and crossing the saddle on the G string only was not straight but at a sharp angle. When I moved the string over one notch on the saddle all the problems stopped on both strings. Now I have to get me pickup back to the correct height. You wouldn't happen to know what that is for a P bass off the top of you head?

Thanks Q
