Bass ID for proper pickguard?

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats up, I recently bought this bass on ebay bundled with a pickguard that doesn't fit at all, NONE of the pickguard holes line up! Talkbass guys are really knowledgeable and I was wondering if anyone could determine the make of this bass by just the routing so I could buy a proper pickguard. The pickguard I received with this bass seems to be too small, something I have never experienced before. The selling said it was a 70's body, I only paid $80 bucks for it so it doesn't really matter. Thanks for the help.

Rarely do the screw holes line up and you might have to redrill them and plug the old ones.

It's a common situation.

I see what you are saying but in the situations that I have seen some or most of the holes line up. I can't get more than one hole to line up on this bass. also the pickguard is slightly too small for the neck pocket which measure 2.5 inches.

Sometimes the material of the original pickguard "shrinks" over time. Does the pickguard seem to be original? That might be the reason it doesn't line up. If so, your options are to fill the original screw holes and position new ones to fit the guard or order a replacement (maybe even a custom fit). If it were me, I would order a new pickguard that fit and save the original. Even if the body/guard are not particularly valuable now, you never know what might become a collector's item in the future.

I'll do that then, I'll just buy a new pickguard for it and drill if I have to. Thanks

If it's a Fender count the holes for the pickguard, they have 11 and 13 screw patterns (I think) maybe more, not sure off hand. There is more than 1 pickguard style.
