Bass Mods Hardware Kit

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the process of putting together a jazz bass, and I want black hardware for it. While looking through Hipshot and Leo Quann products, I stumbled across this: http://www.bassmods.com/servlet/Detail?no=1602

All that for $100 seems like an awesome deal, but I'm a bit worried about the quality of those parts. I've never heard of the company before and for some reason the parts just look "cheap".
Now maybe I'm just over analyzing and looking for an excuse to get a BAII Bridge and some Hipshot Ultralite tuners, but the price difference would help make this project mush easier.

Has anyone had experience with these kits, or any individual parts from BassMods? I'm mostly concerned about the tuners and the bridge, as I probably won't be using the pickups that come in the kit(actually, I can't even tell if those are pickups or pickup covers?)

I'd appreciate any help TB has to offer.
Thanks.

Although I have no experience with this company, I would be skeptical because they don't show any close ups of the individual parts. It is hard to determine the quality from the image they show. I would like to see an image of the wired control plate for sure. If it were me I would go through Bass Parts Resource and pick and choose what you need.

That's what I was worried about. Still on the fence about it, any other opinions?

I would probably chalk that one up under "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

That is a lot of parts for that price. All of those parts from a quality maker would be more than twice that.

In your case, you have to be extra careful. Not only do you want good quality parts for performance, but with black parts, you also want parts with a very good quality finish (like a high quality powder coat), otherwise, it will begin to flake off in no time and it will look like crap.

That's why I would never have black hardware. I agree, it looks great when new and clean, but it will eventually flake. I stick with good old chrome. It stays nicer a lot longer.

The hardware they sell is the same cheapy stuff you get on ebay.

Well, I'm 90% positive it is anyway. I've seen stuff that looks identical to it for cheap in ebay auctions, even down to the clone traben bridge they also sell.
