Hi all,
I recently had my fretless neck replaced with a fretted neck on one of my basses. I wanted to ask what the best way to store the fretless neck in order to keep it in the best shape in case I wanted to use it again?
Thanks in advance

| | | | Sorry, I can't answer your question because it is my plan to have the same problem soon so I guess I'll also be watching your thread. I have a MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special fretless on its way from winning a ebay auction and it is my plan to swap out the neck with a fretted one to save the fretless neck from undue wear and tear, especially while I am learning. I thought I would play the fretless for a while just to discover the eccentricities of a fretless and then swap it out for a more conventional neck. I just posted a question yesterday concerning this plan so it will be nice if I also see what the "pros" have to say about your question.
Hope there are some good answers.

| | | | i would adjust the rod so the neck was straight.
it seems like when a neck spends years or decades bowed up or back, it sometimes decides it likes to stay that way. storing it straight should help it to stay straight.

| | | | Since you guys seem to have several opinions on neck storage, what is your opinion on installing machine threads into the body neck screw holes in order to facilitate the removal/installation of multiple necks on a bass. This was throughly covered on the several thread concerning the repairing of stripped holes in both the neck and for the strap holders, but in another thread, I asked about swapping out the necks when you want to change the nature of the guitar from one to the other and back again. I am looking on opinions on this which is apparently, the intention of this thread's author. I understand that you would have to become rather versed at neck and intonation setups to make this feasible but I'm sure after practice, this would not be too much of a big deal. Or am a wrong and can you end up damaging something beyond repari?
