Bass Needs Work

I just got my old Fender fretless Jazz (Japanese, mid 90's) back from a long-term loan to my little brother and he wasn't as careful with it as I would have liked.

He's played with the bridge so all the string heights and lengths are all messed up, stripped out the bottom strap button, replaced a pot on a tone knob with one that was too big or something because now the knob doesn't sit flush with the top and it still has the same strings it had when I let him have it six years ago. Not to mention all the dings... At least he played it instead of just letting it sit in a corner I guess.

Let that be a lesson to me!

Who thinks I should take it to the shop and who thinks I should give it back to the little runt and just get a new one?

You can fix all of that your self for fairly cheap - or better yet have your little brother pay for the replacement parts.

You're not helping me justify a new bass at all.

Those MIJ basses are super sweet.
I have one (97) that I love. Those issues are easy fixes.

Mine's actually one of the 50th anniversary ones from '96.

Even more of a reason to get it and fix it up!
These are highly valued by Fender players. If I were you, I'd re-consider letting it go and fixing her up.
