Bass not grounded?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there I am having a little problem with my Jazz bass. I think its not grounded but am not sure. Basically I have noticed over the last couple of practices that I have been turning up a little more each time. I tried another bass and of course had to turn back down. Then I figured it was the output of the bass. So took the control plate off and took a look around. Nothing serious. I did plug back into an amp to find with the plate loose it worked fine, but when I was just tightening down the last screw...huge volume drop. Do I need to replace the 1/4" jack or is it not grounded correctly???
Thanks,
Rick

Yeah definately sounds like a grounding issue. Get a voltmeter and put it on resistance check and poke around.

To be more spesific, check the resistance looking back into the instrument jack with the cover on and off. If the issue is what it sounds like, the resistance will be lower with the cover on which would attenuate your output signal.
