Bass Playing in Drop C

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright Dudes!

I've just joined a band which play predominantly in drop C tuning. I paid out of my own pocket to get my bass setup for this tuning, however my "E" string (now tuned to C) sounds like a wet piece of meat flapping around on my fretboard rather than a knee quivering punch thump.

Just wondering if my technique was wrong or if there was some equipment thatd help me out with this? or some setup trick?!?!

Im using a passive Fender jazz with roundwounds through a 6x10 Ashdown ABM Evo II.

Any help would be seriously appreciated guys!

Thanks!

Did you get some really thick & meaty strings? Some guys are doing b-e-a-d on a 4, you could just do that?

Like i said in the other place you posted this, get a 5 string set, and tune up the half step from B to C. then replace the A string with the E from the new set..., and etc.....the tension should feel alot better.

Do they sell bass singles? I've never looked. I'd just sub a B for the E and be done with it.

Alright Guys! (original poster!)

managed to get it sorted with a heavier gauge string set

I didnt go for the 5 string (low B) option as i didnt think my neck would take it too well so ended up with a 110' on the top and raised action

Sounds awesome!

Thanks for everyones help!
