Question Bass Repair/Maintenance help

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
Halfway through my practice today, my bass stopped making sound through the amp. I can't figure out the cause of this- I've tried playing from two different amps with different cables but to no avail. I fiddled with the gain and volume knobs on my guitar as well, but that didn't work either. If someone could help me, that would be great! Thank you!

How old is your bass? I suggest taking off the control plate and looking for broken connections. Maybe the output jack is not holding your cable tight enough?

If it's active, change the battery.

Also - tell us the exact make and model of the bass, and whether any modifications have been made to it. There's not quite enough info in your post.

Check the input jack. There should be 2 wires soldered to it. If one
is broken off that's the problem. Very common in budget basses.
Also, Pilgrim's answer is one that is commonly overlooked.

If its passive pups, its most likely jack-related trouble, i.e.: broken wire, cold solder joint, tip connector lost its springiness, corrosion in sleeve of jack, etc.

Like Stumbo suggested, you'll need to remove the control plate for inspection.

good luck..
