Bass tuner info

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi
Building a bass and need some help with terminology !

1. Reverse wound Tuners -what are these. Do they simply turn a different way when tuning ? How confusing....

2. Peg hole diameter - Whats the difference between 'BML' tuner, a 1/2" and a 3/8" tuner. If I buy a standard neck from Warmoth with a 11/16" hole, which ones will fit ?

thanks for your help

The direction of the winding matters if you have a 2+2, inline 4, 4+1, inline 5, etc, etc, headstock configuration for your tuners. The pegs on the headstock turn in opposite directions depending on if they are top or bottom so as to properly wind the strings.

Peg hole diameter is the size of the actual hole cut in the headstock wood. You'll need to buy tuners for that specific size hole, unless you feel like drilling bigger holes (you aren't going to go smaller on the same neck though...)

Did old fenders have reverse tuning keys

Thanks for the info. Still have some questions

Hipshot website talks about Pre-CBS reverse wind HB3
http://store.hipshotproducts.com/car...ct_detail&p=99

and then the HB2 is for 67-82 fender basses
http://store.hipshotproducts.com/car...ct_detail&p=96

So did old fender tuners wind in a different direction ? ?

Yes. That's why they're "reverse."
