Bass Xtender Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an old Schaller Xtender, like the Hipshot one. I was moving it from the bass it has been on forever and when I took it apart a piece fell out that I didn't recognize. I can't figure out where it goes, or at least how it is supposed to orient. It is the small t-shaped metal piece in the pic that is not black. I have a couple other Hipshot Xtenders and they don't have that part. Obviously, the string peg goes thru the hole, but I can't sort out what it's purpose is or how it should align. If anyone has an old Xtender like this and has any ideas, I would appreciate the help!

The T is a type of spring spacer. The hole holds the tuning shaft, and the wider T part fits under the worm gear on the shaft of the elephant ear tuning key.

That spacer is the one that provides the tuner with tension required to hold the tuning. It goes just like 20db oad said.

Thanks guys, don't know why I didn't sort that out. There is a bit of a bend in that part, I don't know if that is just cuz it's old or cuz it's supposed to be like that. I put it with the bent part up. Thanks again!
