Not sure this is the correct forum, there doesn't seem to be anywhere for hardware related posts. Anyhow, I fitted a bassmute to my beloved Bacchus Jazz today. I will post up some sound clips tomorrow. It is a great piece of kit and something I think I will use a fair bit!

Thanks Joe,

It was about 80 Euros. It is made very nicely but still a bit steep for quite a simple device. I couldn't find anything cheaper though that works!

Tell me about it - but unfortunately I do not have the facility to machine my own device at home. Using rubber under the strings did not work half as well, of course.

I've got a BassMute on one of my Bongos, and I absolutely love it. It's become a major part of "my sound."

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

quick question.... is there any means on the bassmute to adjust the amount of pressure pushing against each string individually? I'm muting with a random chunk of foam but notice imbalance, particularly after the grooves begin wearing in.

There is indeed - you can move each foam piece indipendantly of the others - ther can be moved and then tightened against the shaft with grub screws. This is the reason I got it because I never found a piece of foam that worked evenly!

Cheers

If I could afford one, I would really like to have one of those, they look much better than the chopped up sock I use now.
