basswood for ramp

Sign in to disble this ad
I tried locally to find a piece of basswood to make a ramp for my Fender J bass but there is none to be found. Anyone dealt with any internet wood dealer they can recommend? I need a very small piece like four inches wide and three inches high by .5 inch.

My concept is that it will be a lot easier to shape the wood if I am working with the grain rather than against it. My pickups are four inches wide and the spacing is around 3". Eventually I will build it out of rosewood or ebony but thought it would be a good idea to start with a less expensive and easier to work wood.

Suggestions?

Most hobby shops carry basswood blocks for carving projects.

I just got a block and some mounting tape at AC Moore for all of $5.00.

So far it's working nicely. Although I need to sand the treble side down a little bit further. And, I'd like to stain/die it black.

I've heard I should get black leather die to make it look like ebony. Does anybody know where to get that?
