Blargh, I'm changing my tuning to BEAD, from the Usual EADG. My bass is a fender squire J-bass (I'm poor), and I need to know what to adjust for the thicker strings. I know the headstock nut should be switched out, but what else? |

Depending on your bridge, if it can cut the mustard, then you can keep it too...but i had to switch mine.
it's a good tuning, i don't see why its not done more often. |

You will probably have to re-set the relief as well by adjusting the truss rod. Then the bridge height. Oh yeah, intonation too.

When I did it myself, I found that, things were really tight, but action was high.
so i widened, and deepend, very very agressively...it surprised me how much the nut changed after I was done with it.
YMMV, but for me, I just let loose on the nut. |

Ox. | I bought a Badass bridge, so I could accommodate the .130 tapewounds I'm using. |

OT: How do you like the BA? I am reworking my SX totally and thinking about getting a BA.

Ox. | From 105 85 70 60 I believe, to 130 105 80 70. |

Unless your E has a ton of slop at the nut I can't imagine a .130 fitting a .105 groove. You can always put them on and give it a shot first...
Its really no big deal. There are a few posts on here and floating around the internet on how to proceed.

Ox. | The BA, it's GREAT. I can't say, objectively, if it's "adding sustain" or what not. But what I know for sure, that it's on there, solid, and the bridge is huge. It's aesthetically more pleasing, and has LOADS of possibilities to dial in intonation and height...
it weighs like, one pound. Don't hurt yourself, taking it out of the UPS box, I know I did
My only qualms, are that it doesn't have a recessed end (to hide the ball ends of the strings), you have to make little slots for your strings on the nut (meticulous), and if you have to remove some of the paint from the bottom, for the ground wire....unless you're getting the chrome one, then you should be allright. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
