BEADG to EADGC

I'm thinking about changing from standard fiver tuning to EADGC for more lyrical/solo stuff. What adjustments will i have to make to the bass? Does the overall string tension change? I'm guessing i'll have to lower the action a little. I've also heard that you may have to change the nut to fit the new string gauge, BUT I have a zero fret on my bass so will there be a problem? Also, will string spacing be more wide due to the loss of the fatty B string and the addition of the skinny C? Any help is great, thanks!

I swapped mine out on my SR505, and haven't had any issues. I already have my action set pretty low, so I didn't have to worry about that. I'm loving the change; it's nice to have more than 5 additional notes with an extra string.

I do this. Odds are, you can switch and it will work just fine without adjustment, especially with a zero fret. After fifteen minutes of playing, you'll quit noticing.

Try it and see what happens!

I think all you'll notice is
1/ slightly higher action due to slightly increased tension. A quick truss rod tweak & off you go.
2/ Your E is further 'up' the fingerboard. Might point out a reach issue.

String spacing doesn't change. String gap changes, true, but I think any change in feel that might give will vanish with the feel of the different stringing.

Enjoy!!
