Bent neck at neck-body joint; need help

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to get my neck as straight as possible on my MIM Fender Jazz. I gotten most of the neck straight, but I haven't been able to straighten a bend on the neck at the part where the neck first meets the body of the bass (somewhere around the 15th fret).

Is there anything that I can do to straighten it out? It really only is a slight bend, so I don't think my neck has any problems, but what do you think?

Well...what you have is the not-uncommon, "ski jump".

If it's not very much at all, you can sometimes deal with it, by ramping the high frets down, i.e., a partial level/recrown. Usually, though, what's involved is at least a partial refret, and doing the ramping to the fretboard.

I had some luck using placing a shim in the neckpocket at the edge of the body instead of the usual spot towards the bridge. I raised the back of the ski slope to be more even with the front. I then performed a complete setup and it worked out fairly well on the few I did.

that would be the Heel. It is common-- the best way to fix it is take it in-- they pull the frets down there and level the board-- put frets back in and you are ready to go. Or they can file the frets if possible. Prob $100 or more these days.

disclaimer****** I am not exactly sure of the price of this kind of job. I am not selling any kind of repair to anyone to persue any monetary gain by mentioning a price. Thank you.
