Welcome to the LC. We are here to help you with building an instrument. Perhaps your question will be better answered in Set Up & Repair. You would take the old one off and put the new one on.

Hi brutal bassist,

You may end up getting a lot more help with this over in setup/repair, so I'm going to move it on over.

Best regards
Paul

I'd say, if it's not too badly bent, you could just as well straighten it out. Remove the string, undo the four little screws on the back, and pad the jaws of a pliers to hold on to the flat of the peg and use your hands to bend it back into place.

Buying a single tuning machine might not be very straightforward—I'm sure you could do it online, but maybe not in a local shop—and why buy a new one if the old one is perfectly functional but just a little bent. With a careful repair you may well never be able to tell that it got bent.

Or you could do what I did after bending the G-string machine head on my P-bass and just leave it bent. No one would ever notice unless they were inspecting the bass or retuning it, and it isn't a problem for me. The instrument is meant to be played, right?

You may be able to straighten it, or the metal may snap. You can also buy replacements - so some online searches and you'll find sites like Allparts.com and Guitarparts.com...or buy one from Fender.
