Best Bridges For Fretless...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys!

I'm doing a rebuild on a jazz bass and I was wondering what you guys thought was the best bridge for nice low fretless action. I've tried a Badass II with nice results as well as a Schaller Roller Bridge but I was wondering if anybody has tried a KSM Foundation or a Gotoh? The Badass II was ok, and I really loved the Schaller but what else could I try? What else could be better? I suspect its a matter of taste, but I'm looking for a good solid bridge with low action.

Thanks!

As far as the low action is concerned any adjustable bridge will do that.
As long as your neck angle and truss rod are set up appropriately you're good to go.
So yes, it is a matter of taste.
As far as cool bridge features go, I like to have one with a quick string release so that changing strings or just pulling them off to work on something or clean is a breeze.

Stop sneaking mis-spellings into my posts, I spelled it angle not angel.

I have a fretless Jazz bass with a Badass II. I love it. Gave me back the sustain that the rosewood took away. Though I would kinda think that any high-quality high mass bridge would do the job.

Not totally sold on the Babicz. I almost picked one up to play with to see how well it would do. But for that money, not really a good investment.

I tried looking for reviews a while ago and didn't find any. You wight try Harmony Central and see if they have any there now.

I guess with all obvious factors aside I love a Schaller bridge for Fretless, with the built in crown and adjustable string spacing and will go with that again but I was just wondering what everybody else's experience and taste where when it came to bridges used for fretless bass.

i don't see any difference between this and a bridge for fretted bass.

my favorite fender bridge is the vintage-type with the threaded saddles. low-mass, adjustable spacing, no rattle or sliding around if strung right, plenty of sustain, under $50.

I would go for a low mass aluminum bridge.
