Which is best to cure Thunderbird neckdive????

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone, I'm currently doing up my Epibird and would like to get the neckdive issue sorted. Now i've seen the solution to this is by moving the strap button to one of three places, some with pros and cons. Which one does everyone think best?

A. Drill a hole in the neck plate and bass such as this:

B. Drilling a hole into the body above the neck:

C. Putting a longer screw in the neck plate and attaching the strap button to it. Does anybody have any idea what size screw is best for this?

I've heard that someone encounted a bit of a problem with A with the bass leaning away from them, so i'm worried that might happen to me too.

Thanks for the help!

sell it!

ok, seriously, the farther you can get that button towards the headstock, the better, so B is slightly better than A.

it will still be very neck-dive-y, though.

you could do the nikki sixx trick and bolt on a little bracket by the bridge to hook your pinky through so you can hold the thing in place.

Thank you chaps!

That's contraption on that thunderbird looks quite bizzare! I can't imagine how it works.

That nikki sixx thing is really strange too. I play between the humbuckers so unless i grow my finger a bit..... it's just not going to work, but thanks for the idea anyway!

I'he done B on my epi EB0 and it works. Of course the EB0 is short scale, but the neck dive was terrible before

yep i also did option B to my thunderbird. worked well no neck diving issues at all, although i found i had to trim the strap i use with it to fit but i think this is because i use strap locks.

The device essentially creates a pseudo-upper horn where none existed. The Bolin NS models used a similar swing-away arm to improve balance. So did the headless Steinbergers, for that fact. Bottom line: put the strap pin as close to the 12th fret as possible.

I've used a longer screw for one of the neck screws and mounted a strapbutton on the neckplate.

So there it went. The bass was in e-bay a few months ago and there was a thread about it too. That finish is just hypnotic. If I ever build again, that'll be the colour scheme.
