Best Machine Heads??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello

New here and my first post.

I have a couple of St Blues with Wilkinson machine heads (open vintage 17mm post) - standard PB/jazz style and I'm looking to replace them with better. Can anyone recommend the best - Hipshot / Schaller / Grover or a.n.other perhaps?

Thanks

Dave

I like Hipshot Ultralites. Super well constructed, very light and works as expected.

I have a Fender Highway 1 Jazz, a Fender/Warmouth P-bass, and an original US made Bullet Bass Deluxe and all three basses have HipShot UltraLights on them. The best there is, IMHO. )-(

Wish there were more pighead options with the hipshots.

my old bass is being redone....
it has 2n2 machines, would fender style machines work

i do realize that it would be bassackwards for the bottom two...

I really like the Gotoh Vintage Reverse tuners... have them on two of my custombuilt basses...

i have a question on the ultralites, will i need to drill new holes if my bass has regular tuning pegs on them now?

Thanks guys

It's the open type that I'm looking for (retro style bass). Assuming they fit, I'll try the Hipshots unless anyone thinks there's a better one out there?

Yes, you will.
You'll have to live with the open holes on the back of headstock but IMO it's a fair price to pay for a much more comfortable instrument.

i have used the Gotoh which I think are great. However, I think the ultralites have the edge, my new bass has em and they are the best for sure!

do you guys suggest filling the holes on the back of the neck.

also on the hipshot website, there is a choice for bass side or treble side. can you guys explain.
