Best way to narrow string spacing

I have an allparts jazz neck that feels a little wider than what I was hoping, so I would like to see if I can narrow the spacing. I'm wondering if the best way to do this is at the nut or the bridge.

It currently has a Wilkinson bridge and standard jazz 1.5" nut. I'm considering cutting a custom nut with tighter spacing. Is this going to have a noticeable impact, or should I be looking at the other end?

For sure the BEST way to do it is both ends. That will give you the greatest effect but I'm sure you knew that already.

You can try the nut first, as we tend to play the lower frets the most, and this may give you the "feel" you are looking for and do the trick. If not you'd have to do the bridge too. Since you will have to be the judge of the results, only you will know for sure, and the only way to find out is to try it.

I would start by getting a bridge with adjustable spacing. A custom nut would be the last thing on my list since it is time/labor intensive and non-adjustable (meaning if you don't like it or make one errant swipe with the file the whole nut is scrapped).

What feels too wide, the strings under your fretting hand between frets 1-7, or higher frets, or your plucking/picking hand?

1 1/2" jazz nut width is pretty narrow as it is.

We need a tad more info.
