Best way to stop the Furrels falling out.

Sign in to disble this ad
I was changing the strings on my new Fender P5 last night and one of the furrels feel out the back. I was just wondering whats the best way of securing it back in if im not stringing through the body.

Ive got a few ideas but wanted to see what other do first.

Cheers

Glue - maybe superglue. Double-stick tape. Gooey wood filler. Anything, really. It shouldn't take much.

A spot of wood glue ought to do just fine I would think.

Stop calling them furrels(isn't that some kind of animated stuffed animal?). It's 'ferrules'.

Put a couple of drops of super glue inside the cavity (to keep it from getting on the finish), then re-insert the ferrule. A brush-on application would be better than a squeeze bottle just to make sure you don't get the glue where you don't want it.

Use carpenter's wood glue if you ever want to be able to remove them again, like for a refinish. The super glue will make them permanent. Wood glue will hold plenty well enough.

another non-glue fix I have used on string ferrules and over sized tuner holes is to put a piece of teflon tape around the ferrule and squeeze it in to the hole..make sure you start the tape about half way down the shaft so when you push it in, the tape pushes into the fit. This method is specially good for over sized holes.
