Question black abalone P/G

Sign in to disble this ad
yes maybe this should be in the luthier section but i'm looking for the `vast majority' not everyone visits that section,i'm sure the mods will deecide(and i aplogise ahead of time if i'm out of line)

man i want one!,,i just have a hard time with 65-75 bucks for a PG plus shipping, not that i'm cheap but i'd rather buy some TI strings for that(just hung news strings and painted the headstock black nitro so i'm not looking for strings it's a PG i want),,this bass is going all black or with abalone,,,

who sells black abalone PG's for?,gee less than 50 bucks shipped i could stand(don't tell my bride),,anyone?

(MIM P bass)

The shell materials are always the most expensive. I paid $54 for a jazz PG in tort from pickguard heaven. It takes a lot more material to make a P style guard. $65-70 seems reasonable.

If you find one cheap, don't be surprised if it shows up and looks like crud.

Have you tried WD products? I purchased a black abalone p/g from them for my Jazz V and it looks awesome against the midnight wine color. The band wants me to perform with it all the time, even though i prefer 4 strings.

I think I paid $49.99 for mine.

WD Music is the only one I know of offhand that sells them. I bought one for my jazz a while back and it fit perfectly.

hey thank ya'll for the replys!,here's the rundown on what i did/found;on ebay an Aussie seller is offering them(the close up got me excited,,obviously!and upon looking at his auction again,he states`made in USA,,after googling `black abalone pickguard' i did in fact find a couple sources including the one that seller is selling ( he used the manufacturers pics on the listing)

well, there's also a link to`talkbass.com',and(at least in the pics from TB) it didn't blow my skirt up near as much as the pics on EBay

so,once again thank you but i'm going to have to see one in person, looked at black PG's at the local GC today on a fast trip thru town

so yeah!,i'm an autobody guy i have drills grinders hammers you name it but if i have huge gaps around the pickups after shaping etc i won't be happy i'd be happyer with a tight fitting guard and the WHITE PG gone!(so maybe a tort guard? black and tort looks awesome)

busy day today for sure being a monday so i'm spent for today, can't give the precise thread i found but the member posted a black P with a BA pickguard(do a search you'll find the post),,,, i'll figure it out!(tomorrow)(thanks again!)
